Understandably, no one needs a dripping faucet at home. For the following exercise, however, this is exactly what is almost essential.
For obvious reasons, I have therefore christened 😉 the exercise "The Plumber Meditation".
The aim of the exercise is to create a short moment of pause and mindfulness in everyday life in order to bring more peace and serenity into your everyday life.
For example, you can combine this exercise wonderfully with brushing your teeth, then you have an anchor that reminds you of the exercise in everyday life.
The exercise not only creates a moment of mindfulness, but it also increases the appreciation of water as our life-giver and at the same time strengthens the feeling of connection with the earth and life as a whole, which can additionally center you and bring you into your inner center.
Here's how it works:
- Turn on the faucet so that it starts to drip slowly.
- Now watch very closely the individual drops of water that slowly come out of the tap. You may want to squat down in front of the sink to better observe the drops.
- Notice how the drops slowly get bigger, eventually peel off, and fall down into the basin.
- In this way, you can closely observe 10 drops of water from their formation to their disappearance in the pool. There are only the drops of water, everything else is not important at this moment.
- Now close your eyes and feel into the water droplets. Ask yourself where the drops came from and what the water in these drops has already experienced.
- A little food for thought: Every drop of water we drink today is (probably) approx. 4.5 billion years old , i.e. as old as the earth itself. On its way through time, the water in it has experienced an infinite amount and possibly also absorbed a lot of wisdom in the process...
- Now feel inside yourself: Our body consists of about 60% water. And just like the water of the water droplets you just observed, the water that is part of our body is already 4.5 billion years old.
- Understand how the water in your body connects you to the entire earth and that with this water you carry the wisdom of the entire earth within you.
- At the end of the exercise, go into the feeling that everything is connected to everything else and that this is not a theoretical thought, but a very practical observation.
- If you like, you can thank the water for these experiences. And don't forget to turn 😉 off the tap completely after the exercise!
Admittedly, at first glance the exercise seems a bit lofty. But I was surprised how intense it can be if you actually get involved in the exercise.
As always, just give it a try! Or as a former colleague of mine always said: "I haven't done it yet"!
