Stand upright

Charlie Brown , the anti-hero from my childhood days, knew it exactly:

"When you're depressed, it's incredibly important to adopt a very specific attitude. (…) The wrong thing you can do is stand tall with your head held high, because then you'll immediately feel better." – Charlie Brown

The fact that one's own body position actually has an influence on how we feel is now also confirmed by the Research . And you can take advantage of this to actively influence your mood and emotional state.

So if you feel as powerless and energyless as Charlie Brown, do the opposite of what he said in the quote.

Consciously stand upright for once. Raise your shoulders, raise your head, and look straight ahead instead of at the floor in front of you.

Feel inside yourself how the changed body position feels inside. You will most likely notice that your mood has also changed due to the change in body position.

Take advantage of this and pay attention to how you are standing and walking at regular intervals. And then consciously straighten up.
